Miki Matsubara was a Japanese singer born in 1959 who gained prominence in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, becoming a notable figure in the Japanese music industry. Matsubara's breakthrough came in 1979 with her debut single "Mayonaka no Door / Stay with Me," which went on to become perhaps her most famous song, recognized for its catchy melody and Matsubara's soulful vocal. There was a resurgence in popularity for the song in 2020 after Rainych covered the song and it was re-released accompanied by a video directed by the Fridman Sisters of Stink Films, as a tribute to the late pop icon on what would have been her 64th birthday. In the music video, BOXER and Miyu, two acclaimed Japanese dancers, convey a platonic bond through their elegant movements. Their narrative unfolds within the unique setting of a sento, marking the inception of their connection, and seamlessly progresses as they navigate the cityscape through their dance. The promo was well- received by Matsubara fans both old and new, and was a beautiful homage to the singer who was, and still is, beloved by fans all over the world.
