Luca needed a 30 seconds conceptual video that would show details of his garnements while putting the accent on the fact that it was his first collection and first serious step into the fashion industry. Because the budget was very low we didn't have much to work with except an access to a white studio space and one light. So I had to find a strong and simple idea that condenses all that while insuring a good looking result that would represent well the visual universe of his work inspired by fantastic creatures. The idea of a surreal an metaphorical take off seamed perfect to represent a first "launch" or "jump in the industry". It didn't require any props, expensive kit or location, just an extra macro shot of an insect flying in slow motion to make the idea clear and more visually striking.

Freshly settled in London after studying cinematography, Paul Bellon is a young french DOP and Director making his way into the industry. Alongside assisting cinematographers and photographers, Paul has been working as DOP on multiple short films and directs regularly fashion videos for young designers from Central Saint Martins. On this project, he worked alongside the photographer Christopher Parsons who was shooting the stills and the look book of Luca Hamers's first collection.
