RAYE ft 070 Shake, Escapism

I'm so gassed with the result after all the hard work put in from the whole team involved. RAYE and (creative director) Mikey's approach to this project really allowed us all to push the limits creatively and make something that hasn't quite been done like this before. The song has so many ups and downs, changes of mood and vibe, so the challenge lay in how to connect these feelings and emotions together through filmmaking and storytelling without being too on the nose. My favourite element of the film is the contrast between our real night out footage and the considered setups we shot inside the exact same locations, truly showing the differences between reality and state of mind. That stuff goes hard and is so trippy!

Otis is a director, writer and filmmaker from North West London with British and St Lucian heritage. After making some questionable (awful) films at college, Otis went out into the big world and decided he wanted to be a part of the beautiful, crazy film industry! Starting out as a floor runner, he learnt the game from the ground up and always strived to make films - no matter how low the budget or big the idea. He first burst onto the scene directing ads for charities GirlHood and The Helen Bamber Foundation, which both received nominations at the Adcan Awards in 2016. Otis then gained further acclaim after directing the 2018 Nike World Cup campaign ‘City of Nations’, which played at the legendary NikeTown and flagship stores throughout Europe during the tournament. He’s since worked with brands such as Belstaff, EA Sports, 1800 Tequila, Paco Rabanne, Sleek MakeUp, Lloyds Bank and many more. Otis also loves making music videos. Coming out of the pandemic, Otis’s collaboration with Jorja Smith for her single ‘By Any Means’ received two nominations at the UKMVA’s, an MTV EMA nomination and a MOBO Awards Video of the Year nomination. The film is a breathtaking series of photojournalistic portraits documenting the breadth of the Black British experience and has been described as “one of the most powerful music videos of all time”. Otis is driven by creating exciting films from a unique perspective. Whether he’s working with actors, athletes, artists, models or real people - Otis wants to believe every second of their performance. Otis is also a big believer in true collaboration and giving every project his all, as is shown through his ongoing creative series with Raye on the videos for 'Escapism' and 'Flip a Switch'. Otis finds representation extremely important. He strives to showcase characters and tell stories that we wouldn’t usually see on screen, or hear in our everyday lives. *Fun fact: Otis was once shipwrecked on an abandoned island and saved by the Sicilian Mafia.
