Burberry & Megaforce, two big names. So big in fact, combining them has the potential to create atmospheric changes (of the giant hailstone kind). Burberry’s ’Festive’ campaign follows Megaforce’s magical formula of larger than life grandeur grounded in the reality of human experience - in this case, friendship in the face of adversity. An (impeccably dressed) quartet dance through the streets; each step taken choreographed by renowned collective (LA) HORDE and creatively written and imagined by Megaforce through Riff Raff. Get ready to fall in love with these four Frenchmen all over again. MEGAFORCE: “We found the idea of this film digging through Burberry’s history. The founder, Thomas Burberry, created innovative weatherproof clothing that was used by polar explorers, which gave us this idea of a story that saw its characters braving the elements with ease. That iconic scene from the film ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ came to our minds so we wanted to draw inspiration from it and make a version that speaks for our times. This year has been tough for us all, so we wanted to push the metaphor and transform the rain into ice blocks. We also changed the narrative from a single character to a group of friends because going through the adversity is a thing that we’d better do together.”
Megaforce are Leo Berne, Clement Gallet, Charles Brisgand and Raphaël Rodriguez. The four French directors are from a variety of backgrounds in graphic arts, design, photography and advertising; the resulting fresh approach of these combined skills, and an ability to use seamless transitions in their work bought them to the attention of Riff Raff Films in 2010. Their formative career years were spent directing videos for the likes of Late of the Pier, Kid Cudi, Metronomy and Two Door Cinema Club, who are now all a bit more famous than they were then. In the years since, they have made two Apple commercials along with the comedy genius that is Snackerkist for Saatchi & Saatchi London, and have worked with commercial clients including Instagram, Burberry, Dior, Lacoste, Bacardi, BBC Sounds, Lynx AXE, Assassin’s Creed, IKEA, Nike and Finish. March 2018 saw the launch of Nike “Nothing Beats a Londoner” produced by Riff Raff and Wieden+Kennedy London to rave reviews, as well as becoming the most decorated commercial of the last 40 years at D&AD. Two years later, they both wrote and directed Burberry’s “Festive” campaign, which alongside their previous Lacoste film garnered a gratifying number of plaudits and awards. Megaforce have been listed amongst Televisual’s top 10 Directors between 2015 and 2021 (taking top spot this year), AdAge’s top three directors over the same period, and were crowned Best Directors in Campaign Magazine’s of 2018.
