The video for Boyfriend explores themes around desire, sexuality, and the dangerous (or at least disappointing) energy and actions of heteronormative men. It was shot in Los Angeles with a cast and crew of many queer-identifying artists over the course of one day. Dove Cameron released this song on her own, for her fans, via TikTok. Since then, the song has been streamed over 500 million times between TikTok, Spotify, and Youtube.
Lauren Sick is a writer and director who grew up in the dark woods of suburbia, screening inappropriate horror movies at slumber parties. Her film PARE has screened at film festivals around the world and has taken home awards for Best Horror Short and Best Director. The film premiered as an exclusive on Fangoria and was released through ALTER and Gunpowder & Sky. A lover of horror and genre filmmaking, Sick was a creative collaborator on the feature film SCARE ME, starring Josh Ruben, Aya Cash, and Chris Redd, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020 and was released by Shudder and IFC Films. Lauren's work spans both the narrative and commercial space, having worked with household clients and brands such as Ford, Bose, GAP, Nike, Trident, New Balance, Xfinity, Michelob, and Beats By Dre. She has also worked with some of the music industry's most exciting artists, including MØ, Dove Cameron, Foster the People, A-Trak, American Authors, El-P, Vampire Weekend, and A$AP Ferg. Her extensive music background led her to be commissioned to direct the first trailer for MGM Studios' RESPECT, starring Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin. Sick's latest piece for Ford Motor Company, SCARY FAST, is playing in cinemas nationwide before Jordan Peele's NOPE. She recently directed the pilot for RICH GIRL, a scripted narrative podcast for Spotify from the creators of Pretty Little Liars. Lauren lives and works in Los Angeles and is currently developing her first feature film.
