This series started out as a fun, satiric, writing exercise with Jonathan Salmon, the film’s director and writer, and Khari Johnson, the film’s producer and writer. We highlighted and examined the root of bizarre behavior in Los Angeles that we both saw over the last few years. Shortly after our conversations, several of the events happened to Jonathan Salmon and Abdi Ibrahim, the film’s other director. We all thought the real world experiences need to be recorded in a scripted narrative to show the materialistic and absurd motives that all of us experienced. It’s the selfish, often superficial social goals that run our lives on a daily basis, always making sure our priorities come first. “We wanted to show people that the “weird” and “absurd” moments in their lives are worth paying attention to. We want to make them think twice about the simple things they brush off as comedic, and tap into that universal feeling of “man, I wish someone had recorded that.” And we want to explore the sometimes selfish tendencies we all have when something weird happens, and how we label what is bizarre or absurd.” -Abdi Ibrahim “This was a super scrappy operation, we didn’t have a big budget or fancy gear. We could only afford a small skeleton crew (4-5 of us total) and a camera from a friend, and we just went for it as a group. We didn’t overthink the lines or the direction, we just followed our gut and made something we were excited to share with the world, using what we had available to us. Our goal was to focus on these simple situations and tell a story that the audience finds fun to watch once it’s finished.” -Jonathan Salmon
