The Last Mile is a heartfelt tribute to arguably the most cherished car on earth as it goes out of production. Director Fx Goby takes viewers through the decades, telling both a personal and cultural history of our relationship with the iconic VW Beetle over its 80-year lifespan. Rotoscoped using a traditional hand-drawn technique, the film conveys the warm affection held by Bug owners and enthusiasts worldwide, depicting individuals and key moments in history who remind us of the car's universal significance as a counterculture, pop and political icon.
Fx’s bright, contagiously fun personality is reflected in the playful diversity of his work. Employing a wide range of techniques, including 2D and 3D animation, stop motion and live action mixed with vfx, his work includes commercials for global brands, quirky shorts, dreamy music videos, Emmy nominated interactive experiences and even a full scale roller-coaster ride. Fx’s vibrant journey in the industry began with his graduation from Supinfocom university. His animated short ‘En Tus Brazos’ received multiple international awards and set the tone for the years to come at Nexus Studios. Since then, Fx has created charming and engaging commercials for global brands like Coca Cola, short films including the critically acclaimed ‘Pest’ and dreamy music videos like ‘Skies turn Gold’ for The Ramona Flowers. His short ‘To Build a Fire’ won the Oscar qualifying Grand Prix at the Rhode Island International Film Festival whilst his heartwarming animated film ‘Make Good Things Together’ introduced the annual Google I/O developers conference. Most recently, Fx co-directed the Emmy nominated ‘Back to the Moon’, the first ever VR enabled, 360 Google Doodle & Spotlight Stories collaboration, celebrating the work of pioneering filmmaker Georges Méliés. He also crafted a heartfelt goodbye to the iconic VW Beetle, screened in front of millions in Times Square on New Year’s Eve and created a full size rollercoaster ride that took CES 2019 by storm for Google Assistant.
