California native David Helman is a music video and commercials director with a sophisticated cinematic style. He’s known for blending visually arresting images with nuanced, artful storytelling. Helman has worked with some of the most exciting artists of his generation including The Weeknd, Michael Kiwanuka, Vince Staples, Zayn Malik and Travis Scott. He has directed three videos for James Vincent McMorrow ‘Get Low’, ‘Rising Water’ both in 2016, and ‘I Should Go’ in 2020. Helman’s commercial work includes Puma x The Weeknd ‘XO’, Adidas ‘Being Green’, Nike x Saquon Barkley ‘Bodega Cat’ and the Jordan ‘Unite’ Campaign. He has directed two short films, first ‘Waves’ starring Lakeith Stanfield in 2014 then ‘Naysayer’ in 2019 starring Steven Yeun. ‘Naysayer’ was an official selection at numerous festivals worldwide in 2019 including the Miami International Film Festival, Ashland International Film Festival, Cinequest Film Festival and Tokyo Short Shorts Festival. In Spring 2022, he directed American Football’s cover of the Mazzy Star dream pop classic “Fade Into You’ featuring singer Miya Folick.
