Myself and Signkid took it upon ourselves to re-imagine the rap written by Signkid which originally explored the sense of danger, panic and isolation he felt during covid as a member of the D/deaf community. We wanted to portray the ‘Silent World’ he felt had deepened for the D/deaf community during Covid by creating a heightened, dystopian portrayal of this experience. It was designed to make the film more accessible for those in the D/deaf community whilst also allowing creating a cinematic and empathetic journey for the hearing community.
Charlie Dennis is writer/director hailing from the West Midlands. He’s developed a cinematic style that anchors cutting edge filmmaking with unheard and underrepresented stories. His work is influenced by real life, projecting moments that mean something - ensuring the most exciting stories stay profoundly human. Even his flair for set-pieces and his high-octane scenes deliver an honest punch. He’s recently directed splinter units for a new Sky TV series starring Kenneth Branagh, and directed a Slamdance-nominated dystopian short film that tackles issues from the deaf community with the aim of improving accessibility in film. He’s currently developing his first TV series which will focus on supporting deaf, visually impaired, neuro-diverse and disabled communities.
