James Blake, Jameela Jamil and Bear Damen got their mind and created this film all in all from the conception of a treatment until completion of post-production in less than 2 weeks, with the help of Couscous producing. However, despite the swiftness in execution, it was a subject that they all felt naturally connected to, being that comparison is the thief of joy. As an artist, you tend to compare yourself a bit too much nowadays, especially with the dawn of the digital age and social media, as it can become a source of toxicity in the process of inspiration. Hence, creating these comedic moments where comparison falls flat, provoking empathy, humor and nostalgia as a form of slight funny critic of our current age, was an organic approach and a necessary one.. All that of course with a striking performance from James Blake and Finneas, which kept the beauty of a mastered performance in center of the frame.
After successfully running a record label for five years, Bear now aims his focus on directing music videos, narrative short films, and branded content across Europe and North America. His first production with Couscous, a video for Benny Sing’s “Not Enough,” was recently selected at Raindance Film Festival, D&AD Shortist, and won best Music Video at the Dallas Film Festival along with many other wins and listings. Recently, Bear worked on Ares, an eight-episode original thriller series for Netflix, where he creatively assisted as a 2nd Unit Director and script supervisor. He is currently prepping a short film, writing on a feature project, and shooting music videos, commercials and other short form content.
