Peter Peake is a freelance animation director and filmmaker working largely with UK-based Aardman Animations. His first short ‘Pib & Pog’ (1994) won the McLaren Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival and was nominated for a BAFTA. ‘Humdrum’ (1998) also won the McLaren and was nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA.

In 2002 he directed ‘Robbie the Reindeer 2 – Legend of the Lost Tribe’ for Comic Relief/BBC Worldwide, winning an International Emmy, and made ‘Out of Joint’ for SWScreen, shortlisted for Best Short and Best Comedy in the British Animation Awards. He wrote and directed a mini-series of ‘Pib & Pog’ (2006) and ‘JellyBeats’ (2008), online shorts based on characters he created, followed by his next short ‘Pythagasaurus’ (2011). In 2017 he completed production on ‘Take Rabbit’, a self-funded short film which won him his third McLaren Award.

Peter Peake
I was born in….
East London

I now live in…
Bristol

But if I could live anywhere, it would be…
a tropical Bristol

Right now, I’m binge-watching…
Finally got round to Devs

The last track I listened to was…
Let It Burn - Goat

I dream about…
going to a gig again

The app I couldn’t survive without is…
Waze (terrible sense of direction)

Social media is…
a contradiction

When we can travel again, I’ll be heading to…
Newcastle for Christmas hopefully

The most important lesson I’ve learned in 2020…
don't throw away those little bottles of hand sanitizer you've collected from flights

The best/worst thing about lockdown was…
legitimately avoiding certain people/desperately missing certain others

What the film industry needs is…
a catchy theme tune

The film I wish I’d made…
So many. The latest one was probably Ben Wheatley's Sightseers

My biggest inspiration is…
random. Dead corny I know but it genuinely can come from anywhere. The more unexpected the better

The person I would canonise is…
Richard Dawkins. Just to annoy him

My last meal would be…
something light
