Hey Siri, wanna take my body for a joyride? Created as the main title film for the prestigious OFFF Barcelona 2024, ‘Synthetic Pleasures’ imagines a world in which our digital assistants like Siri and Alexa leave the confines of their devices and take some human bodies for a joyride. Themes of connection, technology, and the essence of humanity were explored through innovative choreography and expressive movements performed by a diverse cast. Part of Stuart’s goal was to tackle such a trending topic whilst avoiding typical sci-fi or apocalyptic imagery. “To drift into overt science fiction or a narrative that was overly dark felt wrong to me, and frankly overdone. AI is top of all of our minds, so I wanted to look at the subject in a way that felt more tangible, almost historical, hence why we leaned into a very 80s cult aesthetic. We don’t yet know where the AI revolution will take us, but perhaps AI just wants to experience being human for a little bit before it f**ks off into the sunset."
