Director's Works

Optical Arts is a London-based creative studio, founded by photographer and director Dan Tobin Smith. The team combines experience and expertise across film production, direction, photography, animation and design. Together we explore new ways to tell visual stories, applying innovative ideas and techniques to live action, digital, print and installation. We work collaboratively with brands, agencies and creative partners to create unique work, from idea conception to delivery.
Amidst the frenetic pace of the modern world, where time slips through our fingers like sand, there exists a timeless virtue that beckons us to pause, to breathe, and to embrace the art of waiting. "Patience” is a poetic ode to the power and beauty of patience in an age of instant gratification. This film is an ode to the slowness, a meditation on the passage of time, and an exploration of the insights that arise from contemplation. Through its surreal journey, the film orchestrates a montage of ideas, inviting viewers into a realm of daydream. In this cinematic odyssey, we observe familiar objects from a new perspective, unveiling hidden dimensions and inviting introspection. Much like a dream, the film proposes a non-linear narrative. This theatre-like setup is used as a blank page, a mental space where new ideas can be projected and assembled. Travelling through sensory experiences, the film evokes a sense of nostalgia. Memories of childhood innocence intertwine with aspirations of grandeur. In this surreal space, where the spatial and temporal boundaries blur, the film is an invitation to think outside the box and explore new territories.
