Nemahsis, Spinning Plates Norman Wong, Amy Gardner
Known for taking the photo world by storm, Norman Wong is a seasoned director with a stronghold in the realms of fashion, film, music, and fine art. Rather than jumping on trends, he is able to trailblaze any medium he touches. Norman’s ability to translate the richness of expression, emotion, and truth from his still work into his award-winning films allows him to transcend the way he approaches directing. Norman is no stranger to collaborating and directing A-list personalities. His insane filmic portfolio includes celebrities like Drake, Bella Hadid, Aziz Ansari, and Annie Murphy, while his photography includes clients like Nike, OVO, Uniqlo, and The Bay. Norman is a Juno-nominated multi-disciplined creative whose prowess for technical experimentation and refined understanding of how culture is shaped makes him a formidable creative. ---- Amy is a director and choreographer whose work spans across film, television, live performance, multimedia production and branded content. Her projects often fuse a cinematic approach with bold and raw movement based storytelling. Her creative process stems from a strong technical background and a professional dance career that began in the concert world. Her extensive training in ballet, contemporary , jazz, tap, hip hop and musical theatre have founded her idiosyncratic style. Over the past decade, she has been creatively fueled by a variety of acting techniques and structured improvisation exercises which have prompted an evocative energy to her kinetic creations.
This project uses the metaphor of clay and pottery to depict Nemah's journey of reclaiming her self-image, highlighting transformation, resilience, and personal growth. Nemah feels like she’s expected to act a certain way based on how she dresses and looks, and through the metaphor of clay and pottery, this video is meant to represent her taking control of her own image/self. She’s shaping, refining, and even destroying herself with the intention of starting over. Eventually the clay gets fired and becomes stronger, tested, tried and harder to break.
