"María’s highly perceptive, collage-like work is informed by her fine art and design background and the inspiration she draws from her childhood in the Canary Islands, where she had a view of a volcanic crater outside her bedroom window. Having grown up around this unique and dramatic perspective, there is a vitality and visceral nature that she brings to the environments she shoots in both her personal projects and commercial work.
María uses her artful imagination to craft enigmatic worlds that are visually striking and sophisticated. This has also led to her having a great command of post and incorporating different elements of filmmaking craft into her work. María’s aptitude for making impactful and engaging content has seen her working with brand giants like Adidas, Coca-Cola, and Volkswagen and cultural trailblazers such as Loewe, Paloma Wool, Haim, and Playboy. Notable work includes her spot “You Can Handle Anything” for hygiene brand INEOS, which was shortlisted for the 2022 1.4 Awards; a documentary short profiling model and actor Adwoa Aboah for Nike’s “What Are You Working On” series; and the abstract film “Hortensia” showcasing digital designer Andrés Reisinger’s chair narrating its journey into physical existence through various stages.
