João's storytelling is deeply rooted in unveiling the human condition during its most vulnerable moments, offering insights into our true selves when liberated.
Looking ahead, João aims to transition into a full-time director and photographer, intending to specialize in commercial, fashion, documentary, and fiction projects. His diverse background and multifaceted approach to storytelling provide a solid foundation for this career trajectory. With a commitment to continuous learning, networking, and collaboration, João is poised to carve out a distinctive path in the world of directing and photography, staying true to his vision and passion for authentic storytelling.
"María Inês" is a short film that captures the quiet emotional tension of a goodbye between two friends on their last day of summer. As the day fades, one of our characters, is consumed by a sense of melancholy, knowing that an inevitable farewell awaits. The film explores the emotional complexity of saying goodbye, as fleeting time and unspoken feelings shape their final moments together.
The film is a product of the collaboration between director / photographer João Carmo and cinematographer Pablo Garrido Carreras. Shot in two days during last summer in Sines, Portugal, with 16mm film, a SR3 camera, and some good friends.
The idea for the film came from a shared desire to create a piece that showcases our skills in capturing emotions and creating well balanced images. We aimed to craft a visually compelling project that not only resonates emotionally but also demonstrates our ability to communicate emotions through striking visuals.
