Nigerian-British filmmaker Jenn Nkiru, a visionary from Peckham, London, fuses art and pop culture in her powerful work. Known for her collaborations with Beyoncé, she directed the Grammy-winning "Brown Skin Girl" from Black Is King, featuring stars like Kelly Rowland and Lupita Nyong’o. The acclaimed video also earned multiple awards at Cannes Lions, NAACP Image Awards, and Ciclope. A Howard University MFA graduate, Nkiru’s breakout short, En Vogue, was an Oscar-nominated success. Her art film Rebirth Is Necessary (2017) celebrated negritude’s magic across time, winning awards at Cannes and AFI Fest. In 2019, her documentary Black To Techno explored Detroit and Berlin’s techno roots, winning two Cannes Lions. As founding curator for Boiler Room’s 4:3 platform, Nkiru has hosted Afrofuturism installations and screenings with icons like Janelle Monáe. Her recent campaigns include Nike Motherhood, The New York Times' "The Truth Is Worth It," and Samsung's Z Flip 5 (2023). She also directed episodes for HBO's Random Acts of Flyness, blending documentary, music, and animation.
