David Helman, a California-born director, is known for his refined cinematic style that combines striking visuals with nuanced storytelling. He has collaborated with standout artists like The Weeknd, Michael Kiwanuka, Vince Staples, Zayn Malik, and Travis Scott, as well as three videos for James Vincent McMorrow, including "Get Low" and "Rising Water" (2016) and "I Should Go" (2020). In advertising, Helman has created memorable campaigns like XO for Puma x The Weeknd, Being Green for Adidas, and the impactful Bodega Cat for Nike. His Cuba Made Me spot for Havana Club, blending photography and 16mm film, transports viewers directly to the vibrant streets of Havana. Helman has also directed two short films: Waves (2014), featuring Lakeith Stanfield, and Naysayer (2019), starring Steven Yeun, which was featured in film festivals worldwide, including the Miami International and Tokyo Short Film Festivals. In 2022, Helman directed Holly Humberstone’s London is Lonely and American Football’s Fade Into You with Miya Folick. His projects that year also included ads for Peloton, Optimum, and the mesmerizing Pharrell and Travis Scott collaboration, Down in Atlanta. Recently, in 2023, he directed memorable spots for Sorare’s Premier League digital player cards and Popeyes’ Launch, capturing the spirit of New Orleans.
