Dan Emmerson’s laser eye for cinematic detail and skill at drawing authentic performances from actors and documentary subjects alike underpin his reputation as a vital British filmmaking talent. His recent pieces for Expedia – mini-series ‘Finding Liverpool’ and viral hit Champions League spot ‘Figo Incognito’ (Newcastle United) both demonstrate these talents and underscore Dan’s ability to tap into subcultures. Whereas his comic EE advert ‘Parent Duty’ is pure, relatable joy.
The multifaceted director has also proven expert at mixing archival material with contemporary footage to craft resonant portraits of contemporary subcultures as, for example, in ‘Where Were You’ – an experimental documentary portrait of Britain on the cusp of Brexit for The Face. Dan’s skillset extends to animation as illustrated by his Thatcher-era-evoking promo for The Specials ‘Vote For Me’, which was awarded Gold for animation at Ciclope.
Additionally, the Londoner directed ‘Corerio’, a documentary about Brazilian delivery drivers, and ‘New Heights: London’ for Nike – Channel 4’s first branded entertainment series. While further commercial clients include: Loewe, Prostate Cancer UK, Burberry, Children in Need, H&M and Oakley, Amazon TV, and Art Fund.
