Director's Works
Claryn Chong is a 24-year-old Chinese-Indonesian film director, photographer and creative director. She was born in Singapore, raised in Australia, and now based in London, where she moved here on a whim all by herself at the age of 18 to pursue film.
Her photographic and visual-leaning style of storytelling is very much influenced by her diasporic experiences, existing as a young woman of colour, and her never-ending identity crises.
This was an extremely low budget film, which meant every single one of us had to put our hearts and souls into it - I ended up having to produce it myself, as well as edit not just the video but also all the footage you see on the LED screen. We somehow managed to make it work with a small crew of only 9 of us, but because we were all friends beforehand and worked together regularly, the vibes were impeccable on set and it all went so smoothly. Making this video really reminded me of all the reasons I love doing what I do.
