Oakley Future Genesis Carlo Quicho
Writer/Director Carlo Quicho, emerging Filipino-Canadian LGBTQ+ film director, infuses his work with a unique blend of dark, otherworldly aesthetics, and innovative utilization of visual effects.His commercial work, OYL: Rebirth of the Satoshi, was an official selection at the 2024 Berlin Commercial Film Festival, and his short film Thank You premiered at Fantasia and the Yorkton Film Festival in 2024.
This spec ad draws inspiration from Oakley’s bold, futuristic branding and design. In a sprawling megacity, a lost citizen encounters a wandering AI construct that awakens their courage and imagination, unveiling worlds beyond their reality. Our team pushed creative and technical limits, blending practical set builds and effects with cutting-edge visual effects to bring this vision to life. As a Director, this also coincided with me learning visual effects and Unreal Engine from scratch. I did all the final layout, lighting and renders for the 3D VFX, with of course the support of additional asset artists and compositors. This was also a large collaboration with my DP Jaryl Lim and my PD Anna Shearing, they were heavily consulted and had a hand in lighting and design choices inside our virtual worlds.
