Director's Works

Judging the Special Visual Project category for the UKMVAs was a feast for the senses - the longer-form projects, set to entire albums, cut deeper than your usual one-track videos. Who knows which films will win? We’ll just have to wait until the splendid UKMVA Awards Show on October 24th. This week we will be showcasing the Special Visual Project nominees beginning today with Baloji’s brilliant imagery and storytelling.

The Belgian-Congolese artist and director Baloji taps into the chaotic rhythm of modern media, in his musical short film, Augure, Infinite Trolling.  Shot in the Congo, it flits between fragmented yet interconnected vignettes that, together,  create a disquieting sense of the surreal . Every scene is set to a track from Augre’s  sprawling four-album soundtrack, pulling you into a celebration of extended listening—an antidote to today’s short attention span.

Just take a look at this scrapbook of characters….
